I've found that it definitely helps when I make a daily plan (not always easy with a threenager around) or, at least -- a skeleton of plan. This week, I found a fun way to get my blood pumping while the kiddo did her toddler thing.
It consisted of simple strength moves against a wall of one of the indoor playgrounds we frequent. These places are pretty packed in the winter, but I've found the noisier it is, the easier I can unassumingly do some gentle exercises while my daughter runs around.
Here is my mini-workout:
20 Wall Squats -- a *great* exercise to build stellar leg strength. POPSUGAR Fitness has a great tutorial here.
25 Grand Plie Squats -- watch fab fitness trainer Jennifer Galardi demonstrate these beauties beautifully.
3 minutes of Swan Arms -- so brutal, but very, very effective. Mary Helen Bowers (the trainer behind Natalie Portman's incredible transformation in Black Swan), shows us how to do them.
A caveat -- I understand not everyone loves the idea of doing stuff like this in a non-traditional setting. Of course, it's a million times easier at the gym, or in the privacy of your own home. But if that isn't possible, and you're trying to Fit In Fitness with a wee one running around, give this a try.
As I always tell myself -- something is better than nothing.
Love and FIF,
