I've been hooked ever since.
And while ballet (and all things pink!) is aggressively marketed to young girls, ballet as an adult is a glorious experience/workout/artistic endeavor. In addition to all of the awesome body stuff -- better posture, flexibility, supremely toned limbs, to name a few mega plusses -- it's been wonderful for what I call my Transition to Cold. Yep -- it's the dead of fall in New England. And along with the stunning displays of fiery orange leaves and tons of delicious apples to sink our teeth into, the chill has most certainly arrived.
But before I start preparing in earnest for another arctic winter, I'm trying to savor this time by ballet-ing it up. I treasure my weekly class, but I'm also just enjoying getting in some barre stretches at home, or, when I've got more time, forking over $5 for one of Kathryn Morgan's stellar ballet classes on PowHow. The former soloist with the New York City Ballet is a dance enthusiast's dream come true. Her online classes are both challenging and awesomely paced for an intermediate student such as myself.
Even if ballet at home isn't your thing, I suggest relishing this time (before the holiday craziness sets in) to get your heart pumping -- whether it's working with weights, a quick pilates sesh, or running up and down the stairs.
The Transition to Cold doesn't have to be chilly. Heat things up, folks!
