It always has been. Ever since I was a sneaky pre-teen -- munching on huge Laffy Taffy bars in bed when I should have been snoozing.
It's not so funny anymore.
I was able to kick the habit for a good decade -- save for a few indulgences here and there -- and then I had my daughter in late 2012. Sugar, sadly, made a BIG return during late-night feedings and the
slump-y part of the day when I was just so, SO tired.
I've been fighting to kick it ever since.
I'm far from recovered, but I am a lot better than I was, when I used to plow through a *big* bag of Hershey's kisses at an alarming rate. It's not easy to give up such a powerful crush, but I feel a million times better when I'm not saddled with a sugar gut.
What has helped? In a word -- protein. Oh, and healthy fats. I've found that grazing on a simple snack of nuts, or a slice of seed-y bread (my favorite is Dave's Killer Bread) with a bit of almond, cashew, or unsalted peanut butter is just the thing to pull me out of my sugar crave haze. A slight drizzle of honey also helps.
Have you kicked a sugar habit? If so, what helped you? I'd love to know -- please comment below!
Love and FIF,
